Now this is funny. For those that may not know TQS has a show called 110%, during which they dedicated almost the entire October 23rd broadcast to the hot rumour that injury-plagued Eric Lindros was on the verge of signing a UFA contract with the Montreal Canadiens. Say what?? I'm sure I wasn't the only one who had a good chuckle over it but I'll admit I burst out laughing when just 24 hours later, TSN reported that Lindros is retiring from hockey.
What's more interesting is how rumours about trades & signings get started in the first place and just who gets labelled as an "inside source". This "source" is almost always a fellow member of the media who simply makes up a rumour for the sake of generating interest for their employer; whereupon it gets picked up by other media outlets that then pass it along as coming from credible or inside source close to the team. With the Lindros rumour, TQS couldn’t have been more wrong if they tried.
